Blogmas Day 12: My Best Christmas Memories

December 12, 2017

As a child Christmas was one of my favourite times of the year; I would see more of my family, I had time off school and I got spoiled rotten by my loved ones. Even though I'm 22 now I can still remember a few things about certain Christmas times over the years that make me smile or think deeply.

1. Christmas 2002 - I was around seven years old at this point and I can distinctly remember getting a box of those chocolate Cadbury's animal cracker things they sell, well I took them to my Nana's home for Christmas dinner and hid them in my lap the entire time we ate. I had about one mouthful of roast dinner to every two or three animal crackers, as you can imagine I didn't eat much dinner and both my Mum and my Nana were furious. The thing was they weren't sure exactly where I got them from until I confessed I'd ransacked the treat cupboard and found them, my bad!

2. Christmas 2005 - This time around I was ten years old and I had possibly the worst cold or flu I'd ever had, meaning my Christmas Day was spent on the sofa feeling like garbage while everyone ate nice food and played games. The reason it sticks out for me though is I remember my Mum sitting on a little chair beside the sofa cutting up my dinner and feeding it to me bit by bit instead of sitting with the other relatives, this is after she'd spent hours cooking and cleaning so she probably really wanted to sit down but she tended to me instead. Thank you Mama I still remember!

3. Christmas 2012 - Fast forward a few years now and I was 17, this memory isn't the most cheerful but its something I think of every year regardless. My Nana was currently in hospital at this point and she was very poorly with cancer, every Sunday and Monday I would go visit her from 3pm to 5pm and keep her company best I could. I'd never had a relative so sick before so it was kinda new and scary to me, but that particular year I'd snuck in earlier to see her on the Monday that was Christmas Eve because I was missing her. Had I known it was the last Christmas Eve I'd get with her I would have dodged the nurses even longer and stayed with her for more time, she passed away in March of 2013 but I'll always remember the year I got to see her for Christmas Eve and take her a little mince pie from her local shop. We miss you Nana, hope you're behaving wherever you are!

4. Christmas 2016 - Last Christmas was one of my favourites because I was in the best place mentally and emotionally I'd been in years; I had my Mum and boyfriend with me as well as our dog Dean, I was in a warm and loving home that made me feel safe and I really enjoyed spending time with the people I loved the most. I have a feeling that this Christmas is going to be the same because I'm so excited and happy to be spoiling everyone and making sure they feel appreciated, hopefully this one will go down as one of the best for sure!

Do you have a particular Christmas memory you're fond of? Maybe you have several! Thank you for reading and I can't wait to see you all again tomorrow for my next Blogmas post.

  1. I love thinking back on past Christmas memories! I also got the flu on Christmas one year and completely lost my voice, so hopefully I won’t be repeating that one this year!
