Blogmas Day 1: Decorating For Christmas!

December 01, 2017

Day 1/25 of Blogmas is a go! Happy December everyone are you feeling festive??

On December 1st it's kind of a tradition in our family to decorate the house and our trees for Christmas using whatever decorations we like, we have all kinds of trimmings from tinsel and baubles, to ornaments and lights! This year however we got a little excited and started decorating on November 26th, which gives us a full month to admire these trimmings and baubles.

For years my mum has had this really unusual wizard that she put at the top of her tree that always reminded me of Dumbledore from Harry Potter, when I was really little I used to sit for hours by the tree talking to it because I thought he could grant wishes. Obviously after not getting any wishes granted I realised he was just an ornament and I stopped my Christmas Tree chit chat sessions, but I still adore the little wizard!
My mums little tree and wizard tree topper!
I've always loved how my mum does our windows with black tape and snow spray to make it look like an old Victorian style window that's captured some snow in the corners, she's very creative! I also decorate my windowsill and I love pulling back the curtains in a morning to see all the pretty trimmings, this year I kept it simple with a few Christmas candles and some stick on snowflakes because I already have a seven foot tree in my room I don't want to overdo it!
That's the cutest my windowsill has ever looked!
When it comes to my actual tree I always pick a colour theme and work around that, this years theme is white and gold so I put my decorative skills to work and managed to create a pretty good display of our white and gold trimmings, the lights are a warm white colour that can change display so I can have them still, have them shimmer, have them flash and even have them fade in and out. I tend to leave them on still though because it gets distracting having flashing lights in the corner of your eye all night long.
My super cosy tree!
As you'll have noticed I have a few cuddly animals hiding in my tree, two of those are what we found at The Range last year and they've earned their place on the branches! The polar bear (Peter) was actually around £2.99 and looks really sweet poking out of the side of my tree. We also have a little white squirrel (Sally) that sits in the tree with her little pine cone! This was also £2.99 from The Range from their Christmas decoration section and you may be able to find your own fuzzy little decoration.

But to add to last years purchases I also got a really adorable penguin (even though I called it an owl on Twitter, silly me) from a Christmas shop in Hull, it was £3.95 and is made of the same material as the polar bear and squirrel so it fits right in!
Percy, Sally & Peter!
So in our home we begin December by making things really cute and Christmassy which really brightens up the house and gets us super excited for the big day! When do YOU decorate your home for Christmas?

  1. We do not put our decorations up until mid December so this post is making me very jealous right now! Those are the cutest polar bear, squirrel and penguin that you have now added to your collection. I might have to go home and convince my mum that we are going to get all the Christmas decorations out of the loft tomorrow. My timeline is full of Christmas-ness. I shall convince her!

  10. The window snow idea is super clever!! Also your little polar bears are adorable, I love doing a white decoration theme. As I'm at uni I don't get to decorate so I go home to a decorated home which is equally as nice, but we used to decorate the first week I think!
